hi, we’re BaykidsBig stories from small heroes
We hand kids in hospitals with serious illnesses a camera and the chance to tell their own story through filmmaking. The result? Real movies. Real superheroes. A sense of hope. And a whole lot of joy.
what we doA hospital room becomes a movie set.
Baykids’ clinically trained professional filmmakers bring cutting-edge digital filmmaking equipment into the hospital to help kids make movies. Kids develop story ideas, write scripts, create props and sets, learn animation, act, and direct films.
We honor and nurture each child’s unique vision. Some kids are driven to explore their illness, others want to have fun creating a fictional story, while others want to make a movie to help other kids going through illnesses. Our program is tailored to the unique needs and desires of each child.
Impact
Why filmmaking? Through filmmaking children learn they are so much more than their illness. As they develop their stories, design props and sets, and become actors and directors, they gain a sense of purpose and optimism. They learn that their story matters. And this helps them cope with their illness.
When a child yells “Action!” they are not just starting a film — they are reclaiming their story.
Mentoring
Our professional filmmakers don't just teach — they co-create. Kids learn the craft of storytelling from mentors who meet them exactly where they are.
Together they write, shoot, direct, and edit while building confidence scene by scene.
Sharing
We celebrate the kids’ courage and creativity with the greater community through film screenings, in Oscar-like film festivals. A family friendly event, this is a celebration that transforms patients into artists and fills the room with laughter, applause and inspiration.
Help kids make more movies! With your generosity, we can bring the power of filmmaking to more children.
